The right accessories can really make an outfit pop - but NOT when it comes to skydiving. On a skydive, jewelry or hair accessories are a big no-no. Jewelry can get snagged (OUCH) on clothing or be ripped away (BUMMER!)

Do I have to take out my piercings for a flight?

Certain metal body piercings may cause the machines to alarm and a pat-down may be required. If additional screening is required, you may be asked to remove your body piercing in private as an alternative to the pat-down.

Can I jump into water with a nose piercing?

If you've just had your nose pierced, it is safe to swim after two months of healing. If you plan on swimming in a pool or other chlorinated water source, avoid getting the area close to the piercing wet for at least 48 hours so that crust can form and protect the wound.

Can you dive with a new piercing?

If you're just going for a casual swim in calm sea waters you should be fine after two months of healing. However, if you plan on going deep where water pressure takes it's toll on the nasal septum, you run the risk of aggravating the wound. That means scuba diving and free diving are off the menu for 8 months.

First of all, facial piercings heal rather quickly compared to some other areas but I'd strongly advise you to wait AT LEAST 3 months, and probably 6 would be better before diving. Piercings can appear to be healed but can get inflamed and infected even after it seems like they should be fine.

Don't take your earrings out too early! They will close rather rapidly. Leave earrings in for 6-8 weeks, giving your ears time to heal.

To hide a septum piercing while it heals, try covering the piercing with a small piece of skin-colored tape to hide it temporarily. Make sure to remove the tape daily to clean the pierced area with saline solution, then replace it with a fresh piece of tape.

Can I sleep with my septum flipped up?

Remember to always wash your hands and piercing well before and after flipping it up, and don't sleep with it flipped (unless you are wearing a retainer).
